Ever feel you need to be fully 'healed' before you can help 'heal' others?

Happy Tuesday Confident Lady,

This week we had an awesome guest on the podcast, Kelly Scott who spoke about overcoming the fear of "I need to be fully 'healed' before I can help 'heal' others". Today I want to briefly dive into this lie with you, as I know so many of us have felt this way at one point or another.

Here is my word of wisdom for you ---> "share your scars, not your wounds"

I have many thoughts regarding this specific lie. As a former therapist I've been able to see it from a different angle. I can understand why some may believe or have been told you MUST be healed before you can help heal. I used to be one of those people who was a firm believer that you must be completely healed before you are able to make an impact--but then I worked in addictions and saw a different standpoint. Many of the support staff who were dealing with their own recovery COULD be even more effective at times than someone completely out of it or who has never struggled.

And here is what I found... In order to be effective in helping someone heal, first ask yourself: "Is this a scar or a wound"? If it is a totally open and painful wound, it's really better you work on yourself first and get to a healthier place before you can help someone else. When the wound is wide open it can bring damage to both you and the other individual as you aren't in the frame of mind to be helping. And guys, no judgement!! We have ALL been there. As they say, you can't pour from an empty glass, same thing. When I was struggling postpartum with Annabelle, I wouldnt have been the best person to be leading other mamas struggling as well right? Because the postpartum struggle was an OPEN wound. However, I could have been effective helping someone struggling with boundary issues or fears around visibility because these were things that were no longer open for me. Make sense?

Also, keep in mind, we are HUMAN! Even though we may be "over" something or consider ourselves recovered, we are never exempt from struggle. So quit putting so much pressure on yourself that you need to be perfect and at a super high level before you can help someone. Where you are today is the place someone else is praying to be in. You are always a few steps ahead of someone else and fully capable of helping them.

Did this hit home today? Do you ever fear you aren't healed enough to impact others?  Comment below and share with me! If think you might be ready to get some support with this, shoot an email to me at kate@katecrocco.com and we will chat about some ways I can support you in getting confident in what is already within you.
