Happy Tuesday Confident Lady,
This week we had an awesome guest on the podcast, Ashley Gartland who spoke about overcoming the fear of "I cannot be both successful and humble". Today I want to briefly dive into this lie with you, as I know so many of us have felt this way at one point or another.
Here is my word of wisdom for you ---> if I question my own humility, this automatically makes me a humble person.
Boom. #Truthbomb sister. If this is even a thought in your mind, you're already a humble person. After working as a psychotherapist for over 10 years, I've seen it ALL. Those struggling with this lie are generally the kindest, more considerate people that I know. There is clearly a difference between someone who is bragging and not considering others feelings and someone who is humbly bragging to be an example of "this CAN be done".
I'm sure you're wondering today, how can I humbly brag? This sounds uncomfortable and I don't want to hurt anyone. Keep reading for my top three tips!
1. Ask yourself "what is my intention behind sharing this news". Are you NEEDING external validation? Are you wanting to make yourself look more important to others? OR are you genuinely excited about this win and you know that you sharing will truly make others happy for you? Now let me say this, not everyone will be happy for you even when you humbly brag. Some people are just jealous people, but you can't allow this to hold you back from humbly bragging.
So quick example. I recently shared about how I signed to work with a literary agent. I was bursting with excitement to share the news because many of you saw my struggles with being rejected previously. I also couldn't wait to share because it was other women I looked up to who published books who inspired ME to chase after this dream. I hope and pray that me sharing about this win will encourage other women to go after their dream and NOT give up even after being rejected.
2. Start celebrating others wins more. Start encouraging those women around you to also jump on the humble brag train! Start an accountability group where you can share your wins with each other. I have a few separate ones and it feels so good and safe to be able to have others celebrate and to celebrate others when good and exciting things are unfolding. Even in my Mastermind Group I have a weekly thread that goes out and asks the ladies to share their most recent wins!! The more women who hop on this celebration train, the more encouraged they are. It's so exciting to see one person share and before we know it several are jumping in!
3. Stop overthinking it. Celebrate and move along. The energy we put out we get back. If you're confident in sharing your good news, others will receive it. Keep it easy breezy.
